Vilpower (Vi) DLT Registration

1. Vilpower at a glance

Providers commonly quote ₹5,900 for Vi, which is ₹5,000 plus 18% GST. Vi's own FAQ and its payment details PDF state ₹5,000 and say nothing about tax, so expect GST at checkout and keep the invoice. Vi's CTA FAQ refers to "the annual maintenance fee that enterprises already pay", which is consistent with the one-year validity. If you resell SMS: the telemarketer aggregator function also costs ₹5,000, and the delivery function costs ₹5,000 plus a refundable ₹50,000 security deposit.

2. Who can register, and what to upload

Vi accepts individuals, sole proprietors, partnership firms, private, public and government limited companies, LLPs, trusts, associations, societies and clubs, and government entities. Each legal entity registers separately, so a group with three companies needs three registrations, chosen by line of business.

• Everyone: a valid business PAN, the authorised person's mobile number and email, and business proof documents.
• Registered by a telemarketer for you: a Letter of Authorisation signed by your authorised signatory.
• Government bodies: a Letter of Intent or agreement from the central or state government.
• SEBI-registered entities: the SEBI registration certificate (validated on SEBI's portal), proof of identity of the authorised person, and an LoA addressed to the telemarketer.

3. Registration step by step

Vi's entity registration manual sets out this sequence. Unlike Jio, Vi takes the fee before approval, and the 72-hour clock starts when the fee is received.

1. Sign up at vilpower.in and choose Register as Enterprise.
2. PAN info, then OTP verification.
3. Business information, including your line of business. Vi's FAQ says you cannot send commercial messages for a different line of business, so choose carefully.
4. Document upload.
5. Payment: online by card, net-banking or wallet, or offline by NEFT to Tanla Platforms Ltd using the account in Vi's payment PDF.
6. Account activation once the registrar approves. You then receive your Entity ID; our Entity ID guide shows what it is for.
7. Log in with enterprise as the area of operation, then email, password and an OTP. From there, register brands, headers, CTAs and templates, and bind your SMS provider through PE-TM Chain Binding.

4. Header rules on Vi

Vi's header manual spells out the numbering rule for promotional headers. They are six digits, and the first digit must match the DND preference category:

• "OTHER" headers are six alphanumeric characters, are "Case Sensitive", and the "Same Header can be used against all three types" of message. AVNZON and AvnZon are different headers.
• No special characters or spaces. Refused outright: celebrity and politician names, other parties' trademarks, registered companies and brands, obscene words, and government- or SEBI-like headers.
• Justify it. Attach a trademark certificate, a page from your website or similar evidence, with a short explanation.
• Lifetime, unless idle. A header inactive for more than 90 days goes back to the pool. Headers cannot be transferred, but can be surrendered. Vi sets no limit on how many you hold.

5. Templates on Vi Business DLT

Vi's current template manual offers three types: Promotional, Transactional and Service. There is no separate Service Explicit option. Transactional now "includes OTPs not only from banks/financial entities but also from non-bank entities such as e-commerce platforms, apps". Variables use Vi's short tags:

• Variable count: a maximum of three, with more needing justification. "Until the justification flow is released, up to 15 variables are allowed on Vi Business DLT", an "interim relaxation only".
• One header per new template. If an old template is linked to several headers, use Replace Headers to leave one before making any change.
• Brand name in the text. Required in every template since 11 October 2020. You can register brands separately, each with a supporting document, and pick them from a drop-down.
• Regional text: choose "Regional" rather than "Text" for Tamil or any Unicode content.

The manual also describes AI aids: a content score ("A higher score increases the chance of automatic approval"), suggestions, and translation into ten languages. On enforcement, Vi's manual says: "As of now, nothing will be dropped". Tag validation will run in logger mode "as per a timeline that will be communicated separately". That conflicts with TRAI's timeline and Airtel's 15 January 2026 date, so tag every template now. The cross-operator rules are in our template registration and variable tagging guides.

6. Migrating old {#var#} templates

Approved templates that use {#var#} are converted in bulk with the Templates Tagging button on the Content Templates dashboard. Download the eligible templates (active, approved, with at least one variable, not yet migrated), fill in two columns, and upload:

The static text must be identical character for character. One extra space fails the row. Keep the same number of variables, save as CSV rather than XLSX, and check the auto-suggested tags, which Vi warns "may not always be accurate". Track results in Migration History and re-upload only the failed rows.

7. CTA whitelisting and the vil.ltd shortener

Vi whitelists static and dynamic long URLs, WhatsApp and APK links, short domains, mobile, landline, toll-free and short-code numbers, and email addresses, one at a time or up to 500 per bulk upload. Vi's FAQ says a CTA whitelisted once applies across operators, at no extra fee. Dynamic parameters are allowed only after a "?", and short domains must carry your header (https://shortdomain.com/SMSHeader/dynamicKey). Vi also offers its own vil.ltd shortener, free for the first 60 days. Each short link redirects for 30 days.

8. Which operator portal should you choose?

One registration is enough. Vi's FAQ says a Principal Entity "needs to register only once with any of the Access Provider", and that the PE ID is unique across all access providers in India. Vilpower suits you if you want published turnaround targets and a phone number to call. The alternatives:

• Jio TrueConnect charges ₹5,900 a year, but only after KYC approval.
• Airtel has a new portal address and checks your GST signatory automatically.
• BSNL runs on the same Tanla software as Vilpower but routes approvals through circle officers.

Vi is the only one of the four operators with a single national DLT phone line: +91-9619 500 900, 10 AM to 6 PM, Monday to Friday, and support@vilpower.in. One section of Vi's FAQ gives support@vilpower.com instead. Use the .in address, which appears on the homepage and in the escalation matrix. The escalation support matrix is "strictly related to DLT support".
