Airtel's DLT platform has a new address and a stricter KYC check than most guides describe. This page covers where to register now, when the fee is charged, what Airtel cross-checks against your GST record, its own variable tag names, and the error codes it publishes.
Airtel's DLT portal is now the Commercial Communication Platform at airtel.in/business/commercial-communication. The old dltconnect.airtel.in address redirects there. You register as an enterprise and complete KYC, and Airtel then charges ₹5,900 (₹5,000 + GST), which it calls a renewal/registration charge needed for scrubbing and delivery. Airtel cross-checks your PAN, GST record and authorised signatory, and asks for header and template verification every quarter. It has required tagged variables since 15 January 2026.
Most Airtel DLT guides still send you to DLT Connect. On 29 October 2026 both old hostnames redirected to the new platform:
| Address | Status on 29 Oct 2026 |
|---|---|
dltconnect.airtel.in | Redirects to the new platform. Its TLS certificate does not list this hostname, so strict browsers and API clients show a certificate error |
dlt.airtel.in | Redirects to the new platform |
| airtel.in/business/commercial-communication/home | Live. Page title "Commercial Communication Platform". Bookmark this one |
If an old bookmark or an integration throws a certificate warning, that is the reason. Update it to the new address.
Airtel describes the fee in three places:
So the fee is charged after KYC, and it recurs. Airtel does not state the renewal period anywhere we could find. Its credit packs show a validity in days, and one pack exists only "To extend account validity & revise certificate only, No Free SMS/Credits will be available in this pack". Check the validity date in your own account rather than assuming twelve months.
Airtel's Business Name Display needs "no registration/ renewal fee", but it is a separate product, not a DLT waiver. Offline payment by NEFT, cheque or DD goes to Bharti Airtel Ltd using a bank-details PDF linked from the portal, and the form notes "Original to be submitted to CMS with DD/Cheque". Take the account details from that PDF on the portal, not from a copy reprinted elsewhere.
These are the checks, with the exact messages you see when one fails:
| Check | Portal message on failure |
|---|---|
| PAN format (TAN for government bodies) | "PAN/TAN Number Format is incorrect" |
| GST details against the GST database | "GST details do not match the details submitted on the portal" |
| Signatory appears on the GST record | "Authorized signatory is invalid (not linked to the director in GST)" |
| One Principal Entity per PAN | "You are already registered on DLT with the given PAN No. Please provide existing DLT Registration No." |
| Signed self-certification | "Self certification with Authorized Signatory required on letter head" |
Accepted entity proofs include certificates from sales tax, service tax or professional tax authorities, a firm registration issued by a local body, and a Mandi Board registration certificate. Airtel also asks you to keep the registered mobile number unique to the entity login. Telemarketers and resellers registering a client must upload a Letter of Authorisation for each entity.
Airtel's pre-tagging notice is headed "Mandatory Variable Pre-Tagging (TRAI Direction dated 18 Nov 2025 | Effective 15 Jan 2026)". For each variable it asks for the type, the purpose and a sample value that passes validation. The type picker inserts these tags:
| Type in Airtel's picker | Tag inserted | Where the value comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Alphanumeric | {#alphanumeric#} | Free text; no URLs |
| Numeric | {#numeric#} | Digits only |
| URL | {#url#} | Drop-down from Manage CTA |
| OTT URL | {#urlott#} | Drop-down from Manage CTA |
| CallBack Number | {#cbn#} | Drop-down from Manage CTA |
{#email#} | Drop-down from Manage CTA | |
| Purpose | {#purpose#} | Listed by Airtel; not in TRAI's annexure |
Your AvanceZone ticket {#alphanumeric#} is resolved. Rate us at {#url#} or call {#cbn#} -AvanceZoneOther Airtel template rules:
{#var#}; the newer component says 40. Keep free-text values at 30 characters or fewer.Service Explicit and category changes. Airtel's notice says "Registration of new SE templates with alphanumeric headers will be discontinued", "SE-Promo category migration will not be permitted" and "Category changes will be allowed only for SI and Transactional templates". It gives 45 days for senders to request eligible changes and 15 more for operators to decide, without printing the start date. If the line between service and promotional is unclear, our transactional vs promotional guide has examples. The wider rules are in our template registration guide and variable tagging guide.
Airtel's Manage CTA screen validates each format strictly, and "Messages will fail during scrubbing if the whitelisted URL does not exactly match."
| CTA type | Airtel's rule |
|---|---|
| Short URL | Must contain your approved, active header for this entity and end in "/", e.g. https://shrt.com/HEADER/ |
| APK link | Must end .apk (Android) or .ipa (iOS) |
| Any URL | A URL that redirects to another URL "will be rejected during the approval process" |
| Mobile number | 12 digits starting 91, e.g. 919876543210 |
| Landline | 11 digits starting 0 |
| Toll-free | Starts 1800 or 1860, 8 to 13 digits |
| Short code | 3 to 6 digits |
For headers, "Header value should be unique. Duplicate Headers are not allowed." Each entity has a cap on registered plus pending headers and templates, and past it you see "Exceeded permissible limit". Headers can be permanent or temporary, with a validity period for temporary ones. The portal lists three suspension reasons for headers and templates: "no usage", "verification" and "by customer". Header naming rules are covered in our sender ID guide.
Airtel's portal is the only one of the four where we found a scrubbing code table. These five codes cover most failed sends:
| Code | Airtel's meaning | Usual cause |
|---|---|---|
| 611 | Invalid entity ID / header not valid for this entity | Wrong Entity ID in the request, or a header owned by another PE |
| 613 | Invalid template ID | Template registered but not yet approved, or the ID mistyped |
| 614 | Template does not match with header | Template not linked to the header you are sending from |
| 635 | Template variable exceeded max length | A value longer than the variable allows |
| 666 | SMS content mismatch | Static text differs from the approved template |
On a missing template, Airtel explains that the template "was not located in blockchain system. This can happen when the template created by entity is registered but not approved from TSP." The rest of Airtel's table, and the codes used on the Tanla platform behind Vi and BSNL, are in our DLT error codes guide.
You need an Airtel account only if Airtel is where you register. One registration, on any operator, gives a Principal Entity ID that the Vi and BSNL FAQs describe as unique across every access provider in India. Our Entity ID guide explains how to find yours. Airtel is a reasonable choice when your GST record is clean and lists your signatory. If it does not, compare:
| When | What changed | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 12 May 2023 | TRAI allows more than three variables only with justification and pre-tagging, and only whitelisted links and numbers in templates; by TRAI's own account, not implemented until 2025 | TRAI Direction of 18 Nov 2025, paras 5 and 7 |
| 8 Aug 2024 | TRAI and operators agree to block non-whitelisted URL/APK messages and to build PE-TM chain binding | TRAI PR 49/2024 |
| 1 Oct 2024 | URL, APK and OTT whitelisting enforced after a one-month extension; callback numbers deferred | TRAI PR 60/2024 |
| 6 May 2025 | Sender IDs gain a type suffix (-P, -S, -T, -G). Reported by several SMS providers; we have not found a TRAI document for it | Provider reports |
| 18 Nov 2025 | Variable pre-tagging Direction: new templates tagged within 10 days, tag scrubbing within 30 | TRAI PR 133/2025 |
| 15 Jan 2026 | Airtel: "Mandatory enforcement for all entities". Then a "60-day logger mode", after which "Non-compliant messages will be blocked" | Airtel portal notice |
| Mar 2026 | Service Explicit templates folded into promotional, per providers. Airtel's notice confirms the end of new SE templates on alphanumeric headers | Fast2SMS; Airtel portal |
| Problem | How it shows | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Signatory not on the GST record | "Authorized signatory is invalid" | Name a person listed on the GST registration |
| Name or address differs from GST | "GST details do not match" | Enter the details exactly as on the GST certificate |
| Business already registered | PAN flagged as existing | Use the existing DLT registration number |
| Header already taken | "Duplicate Headers are not allowed" | Choose another six-character header |
| URL typed into a text variable | "Url found for 'Text without URL' variable type" | Use a URL tag backed by a whitelisted CTA |
| No CTA registered for a tag | "Values not found for type … kindly register for more in Manage CTA" | Add the link or number in Manage CTA first |
| Template ends with a newline | "Fix line break at the end of the template content" | Delete the trailing line break |
| Redirecting or non-matching link | CTA rejected, or messages fail scrubbing | Whitelist the final URL; follow the short-URL format |
| Header or template cap reached | "Exceeded permissible limit" | Retire unused headers and templates |
Airtel's portal gives dlt.care@airtel.com for queries and changes to registered details. When a header or template is blocked or inactive, its messages point to telemarketer.helpline@airtel.com. Airtel does not display a DLT helpline phone number to users, so we do not print one here. Approval times for entities, headers and content templates are not published either. For the steps common to every operator, start at the DLT registration hub.
We can handle the Airtel registration for you. AvanceZone operates its own DLT-compliant SMS gateway in Sulur, Coimbatore. We match your GST record and signatory before you submit, register your CTAs, tag the templates and link everything to our gateway. Sending from Tamil Nadu? See bulk SMS in Coimbatore. Wiring IDs into code? See send SMS using PHP.
We read the GST record first, so the signatory and name checks pass on the first attempt. Then we register your headers, CTAs and templates.
